We caught up with their 23-year-old frontman, Carbrain resident Chris Ashton to learn more.

Chris and drummer Gary Gilmour are survivors of an earlier band called Soundtrack to a Blockbuster. “We’ve been playing together since we first picked up our instruments at the age of 12. A couple of years ago we formed a band called Soundtrack to a Blockbuster, which achieved some fame locally and on the Glasgow circuit. When that ended it was only a matter of time until we formed a new band.”

That new band was Fluorescent Hearts, which sees Chris joined by Damien Hendry, Andy Stuart and Gary Gilmour, performing on the Ten Pound Records label.

“Our single has been mastered at Amsterdam Mastering Studio, who have also done Glee and Michael Jackson,” said Chris, who feels studying music technology and production at Cumbernauld College has given him a good grounding for finding a career in the music industry.

“Everyone in the band has an affiliation with Cumbernauld College,” he said. “Myself, Gary, and Andrew all attended in the past and our guitarist Damien has played in various bands in which members attended the college too.”

The single is going down well, Chris reports. “We’ve had all positive feedback so far and we’ve had nearly 5,000 views on Youtube already,” said Chris.
