World’s most elegant cars showcased in Scotland

For the first time, all three of motor racing legend Sir Jackie Stewart’s world championship winning cars will be in one place at the same time.

And Sir Jackie is delighted they will be on display in Scotland – at the Concours of Elegance 2015, in the grounds of the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, from September 4 to 6.

This stunning event began in 2012, showcasing 60 of the world’s finest cars at Windsor Castle to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and this year will be the first time it has been held north of the border.

Sir Jackie, vice-patron of the Concours of Elegance, said: “I can’t think of a better place to showcase my championship-winning Formula One cars.

“The Concours of Elegance celebrates the best in the motoring world, and this year’s event does that at one of Scotland’s most picturesque venues.

“This event has had a very successful history – Windsor Castle in 2012, St James’s in 2013 and then Hampton Court Palace in 2014.

“To have it move to the Palace of Holyroodhouse this year is just brilliant.

“Scotland is a great place for a car event – we’ve got the roads, the scenery and the history that other locations just can’t match.

“All three of my driver’s world championship-winning cars are going to be there. They’ve never actually all been in one place before.

“One has been in the National Museum of Scotland – the 1971 Tyrrell 003 – and the 1969 Matra is coming in from France especially. Then we’ve also got the 1973 Tyrrell 006, which was my last world championship car.”

Cars driven by other Scottish motor racing stars, including Jim Clark, Johnny Dumfries and Dario Franchitti, will also feature.

But the event is about so much more than racing cars.

The Concours of Elegance will bring more than 100 of the world’s rarest cars to Scotland, with 60 making up the main concours.

Visitors will be able to see models ranging from 1902 up to the modern day, including an original 1912 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost London to Edinburgh car.

One of six Rolls-Royce cars in the main Concours, this particular model was inspired by the Silver Ghost’s return journey from London to Edinburgh in top gear –a feat that helped cement its reputation as ‘the best car in the world’.

Other highlights include a 1939 Delahaye Type 165 Figoni et Falaschi, one of only six to be built, and rarities such as the 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spider and 1979 BMW M1.
