Writers present will include Jean Rafferty (pictured), author of the controversial “Myra, Beyond Saddleworth”, who will be the speaker at the dinner on Saturday.

Association president Marc Sherland said: “It is such a pleasure to welcome members to the conference, whether it’s their first time, or they have attended the forty five years the Association has been putting it on. No-one is a stranger at our Events.

“Members always look forward to the four novel length manuscript results - for a general novel, a romance, a book aimed at young adults and a fact based book, all judged by leaders in the literary field including Inga McVicar, Professor Bashabi Fraser, Gillian Philip and Rosemary Gemmell.

The organisers have also set up an alternative programme of literary learning which will run throughout the weekend, featuring a quiz, and a chance to meet to find out about visiting societies, and Saturday’s event will include a major presentation of trophies and certificates.
