BAM Ritchie carry out biggest blast yet

A team from BAM Ritchies in Kilsyth recently visited Norway for a particularly big job.

The demolitions experts went to Bremanger Quarry to carry out the biggest blast in the history of the company and Norwegian quarrying.

A whopping 68 tonnes of explosives were used to reduce a 20 metre high, 385 metre long bench of rock to produce more than 360,000 tons of usable rock at the quarry.

Ian Christie, drill and blast manager for BAM Ritchie said: “This is what we do, we are drilling and blasting contractors. Saying that, this job was a bit bigger than usual.

“It took a month to prepare for the blast, but this is a career with a huge amount of job satisfaction.”
