Cumbernauld firm's international expansion

A Cumbernauld-based engineering firm is advancing its plans for international expansion.

Clearwater Controls Ltd created the ‘DERAGGER’ in 2012 – an intelligent device which prevents blockages in wastewater pipes.

UK Steel Enterprise (UKSE) awarded the firm a six-figure package in September and has now rolled out additional funding to support pilot programmes in the US, Australia and the UK.

The ‘DERAGGER’ is the only intelligent product of its kind in the market, providing real-time detection of wet-wipe type obstructions.

Clearwater is now set to deliver its biggest trial to date in the US, where the device will be piloted on a complete, self-contained network.

This is a key step for the company’s development, as historically the product has only been used on pumps prone to blockages, however this could now become a preventative tool.

The financial backing will also help to open up avenues in Australian markets with similar pilot initiatives planned.

Clearwater managing director Simon Crompton said: “We have great aspirations for the next few years, and the latest funding allows us to take yet another step towards our goals.”

UKSE regional executive Scott Webb added: “We have been with the organisation through almost every step of its development, and are proud to be contributing to its impressive growth.”
