German supermarket giant eyeing up two new sites in Cumbernauld

Lidl has confirmed it is looking into the possibility of opening no fewer than two new stores in Cumbernauld.

The budget supermarket has announced that the town is among its “target areas” for 58 new Scottish stores in a list which also includes Denny and Moodiesburn.

The new stores involved could be potentially North of the A80 and on the southern side of the Motorway.

An unconfirmed report suggests that the former site could be next to the Red Deer at Auchenkilns – which itself was a site for major investment earlier when an Ibis Budget hotel opened there earlier this month.

This would mark a first for Lidl which has discussed coming to Cumbernauld in recent years but has yet to make the leap.
