Plans to involve public in future of Cumbernauld town centre postponed

This week, the Cumbernauld News had hoped to fully update readers in regard to the crucial third phase of North Lanarkshire Council’s town centre plans.

The authority itself had stated that the blueprints for Cumbernauld’s ambitious Town Visions project were scheduled to appear on its very own council website last week.

However, in an unexplained change of plan they have not done so.

When we enquired as to why this was the case, we were told that both Coronavirus and Brexit had affected the timescale of their publication.

We were also told the timing of the festive season was a factor.

However, it was stressed that all would become clear in the new year.

A council spokesperson said: “The formal launch of stage three of the public consultation and engagement strategy for the draft Town Visions is scheduled to begin at the start of February 2021.

“There will be a formal press release and publicity campaign towards the end of January 2021 to alert the general public to the draft visions and to urge them to provide feedback and ideas to build a consensus around the plans.”
