Cumbernauld school gets impressive report

St Mary’s Primary school and its nursery class was given the once-over by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate earlier this year and the visitors identified a host of strengths within the Seafar school.

The inspectors found that youngsters had ‘‘well-developed citizenship skills’’ displayed through strong charity work and said that staff were committed to to the spiritual development of children. The level of attainment in English and mathematics was also praised.

A programme of self-evaluation at the school was also identified as leading to improvements.It was also stated that the council would continue to work with staff to continue in this vein.

Head teacher Rachel McBride was singled out for her strong teamwork which led to a high standard of learning across the school.

Meanwhile there were more plaudits from the school from the council’s education department. Councillor Jim Logue, Convener of Learning and Leisure Services, said: “Congratulations to everyone associated with St Mary’s Primary School and Nursery Class for this positive report. It’s great that inspectors have found so many positive aspects of school life and that the hard work of pupils and parents has been recognised.”

Miss McBride said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff, teaching and non-teaching for the amount of time, dedication and positive support which is given freely to ensure that all of our children receive the best education possible.

“As a head teacher I am extremely lucky to have such a committed team who support myself in implementing new initiatives, who are energetic and creative and who work extremely hard during school hours,’’ she added.

Miss McBride also said she would like to thank parents and carers plus the the pupils themselves for their positive contribution they made to the school.
