Holy Cross has struggled to provide uninterrupted images of the service due to connection problems which has caused no shortage of frustration at key points.

This has proved especially problematic as there is currently a limit on 50 worshippers per church, owing to Covid-19 regulations.

Now steps are being taken to beef up the broadband after a ‘stream team’ effort which also involved those from outwith the chapel.

Parish priest Father Joseph Sullivan explained: “BT Openreach is arranging the siting of a new pole to allow the provision of fibre broadband and it is planned to put the final touches to the cabling.

“This is as a result of many people supporting the desire to have reliable uploading for the live streaming

“Unfortunately the up-link has let the parish down at times.

“It is especially painful at funerals but has also failed at the recent first holy communion celebrations.

“Having this fibre-led connection would more than likely prevent such frustration and hurt at least as far as technology is concerned.

“This was partly why the uplink to this year’s Remembrance Sunday with Provost Jean Jones was pre-recorded.

“Improvements would mean that the the uplink would be reliable and those joining could connect via FaceBook or YouTube with confidence.

“To achieve this, a lot of work had to be done but with the persistent help of Stuart McDonald MP things were “hurried along” with and by Openreach.

“Indeed North Lanarkshire Council were able to expedite quickly the siting of this new pole. The parish is grateful for all the support from so many quarters.”
