The Cumbernauld News has received a number of complaints from shoppers in Asda who have taken exception to the fact that face coverings are obligatory for shoppers -but are sometimes not been worn by staff.

One shopper Carol Campbell said that she felt there was a wider issue here in relation to health and safety

She said: “I visited the other day and six out of ten checkout operators were not wearing face masks.

“So I am now shopping at Tesco.”

An Asda spokesperson said: “We have provided staff with face masks and have asked them to wear them -but this is something we cannot enforce.

“It is also possible that some of our staff are not wearing masks because they are exempt from doing so.”
