Caring Kilsyth group can deliver in time of crisis

By Neil McGroryLocal Democracy ReporterA dynamic volunteering group has been helping people in Kilsyth get through the coronavirus emergency by distributing food packs.

In light of the present emergency, the group reconvened to launch an isolation helpline which is led by residents Helen Anderson, Tina Milne and councillor Mark Kerr with support from more than 100 volunteers.

The group works closely with North Lanarkshire Council and Lanarkshire Food and Health Partnership. Local business The Original Factory Shop recently donated more than £500 worth of food

In the last couple of weeks the volunteers also distributed 100 hygiene packs for vulnerable residents including people in sheltered housing, handled more than 50 calls for assistance and sent out more than 40 food packs.

They have also delivered around 5,000 fliers highlighting services and assistance available in the area, and have launched a JustGiving crowdfunding page .

Cllr Kerr commented: “Following the siren call from locals for assistance we quickly launched our service to be there fo anyone affected

“As a group and a community, we are overwhelmed by the level of support from the public and local businesses, especially as we are all facing this together.

Coronavirus does not distinguish , it targets regardless of position, income or views

“Our service aims to be the same, totally inclusive.”
