Cumbernauld care continues by telephone

A charity which cares for older residents is being run from the homes of its adaptable staff who continue to provide a helping hand.

Cumbernauld Action For Care of the Elderly has been unable to operate from its base in Wardpark and cannot stage meet-ups for its members.

Yet staff have mounted a dynamic telephone-led befriending service and want to continue reaching out to pensioners, a high proportion of whom were the new town’s first ever residents.

Office administrator Kyle Burns explained: “We have completed 184 telephone befriending calls in the last week with an average call time of five minutes - as well as 150 well-being checks

“We have all numbers and information of local groups and volunteers willing to help with food, medication, dog walking and much more.

“We made 32 referrals last week to other support services some of which were to arrange medication pickups and also arrange shopping to be dropped off.

“Plus we are also using our social media platforms to spread the information from the Government to our users, as well as information about avoiding scams that unfortunately seem to taking off when there are loads of vulnerable people in need.
