Kilsyth’s £12,000 lifeline

A Kilsyth-based community group helping people get through the coronavirus crisis has expanded thanks to receiving £12,000 in grants.

The funding is from the National Lottery, Foundation Scotland and the Corra Trust.

So far Kilsyth and Villages Community Assistance has been delivering emergency food packages and assistance to isolated residents.

Now the new money means it can broaden its activities.

It is now able to offer “angel packs” of essential foods, based on referrals from neighbours and friends of vulnerable people.

It has also distributed more than 800 activity packs for primary school pupils and will deliver more than 200 “pamper packs” to people in sheltered accommodation as well as over 75s.

Chairman of the group, Councillor Mark Kerr, said: “We are overjoyed that we were awarded this funding and the opportunities to help more and go further for our community.

“The launch of the angel packs is in response to views that people may miss out on that little bit of support and it lets the community lookout and seek to assist those who may well go unaided.

“The other initiatives are to ensure we help all families and to remind those over 75 and in accommodation that they are not alone at this trying time.

“Kilsyth and its villages are not just a community, it’s a family.

“No one should be left out of knowing they are part of the family.”
