Tireless volunteers tackle the isolation factor in Cumbernauld neighbourhoods

Members of the area’s community council have been working on their own steam - and helping other group within this densely populate part of the town which includes sheltered housing.

The community council’s secretary Lyndsay Thomson said:”Two of our volunteers, Frances Park and Jan McLaughlin have been cooking meals for approximately. 100 people several days a week .

“They have worked along with Cumbernauld Resilience getting these out to people in the most vulnerable groups who are unable to get out.

“This has only been possible due to the assistance of Tesco’s Fare Share scheme, for which we are immensely grateful. Anything from Tesco that doesn’t go into the cooking of the meals is either offered to people we are already aware of, or put out on social media for anyone in the community to get.

“ We have another team of volunteers picking up from Tesco and dropping off with residents.

“And we have been doing shopping for those who are unable, as well as prescription pick-ups. Anything to help really.”

“We are finding that people need to know someone is there to hear them when they feel so alone.

“Our aim is that our community comes out the other side of this as happy and healthy as possible.”
