Virus crisis could not stop Easter egg delivery in Bothwell and Uddingston

The true definition of community spirit is alive and well in the guise of a Covid-19 support group in South Lanarkshire.

The Bothwell and Uddingston Community Forum and Action Group took time out last week to ensure that every child in both towns received an Easter egg.

Local organiser Allan Stewart, along with other forum volunteers, put their talents to good use as he contacted local shops and organisations, as well as organising a fundraising drive which raised an amazing sum of £2,360.

And, as if that wasn’t enough, the convoy of 40 sports cars, supercars and motorcycles, some of which were transporting the Easter bunny, delivered the 4000 eggs to the local children who were eagerly awaiting their arrival – always keeping social distancing in mind.

Allan, speaking to a national daily newspaper, said: “What an absolutely amazing response we had delivering the eggs to the children of Bothwell and Uddingston.

“A huge thank you to each and every one of our volunteers who gave up their weekend to help us make this a reality, and also to everyone who donated Easter goodies, or cash and to all the businesses who helped and supported us as well – you know who you are.

“We have decided that this was far too good to leave it here in 2020 and we are delighted to announce that this will be an annual event for the children.

“An event that couldn’t be possible without our volunteers.”
