Wetherspoons will be reopening in 60 of its pubs in Scotland next month when restrictions for pubs and restaurants will start to ease.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon unveiled a timeline for the lifting of lockdown in Scotland on 16 March, announcing provisional dates for the reopening of shops, hospitality venues and hairdressers, among others.

Under the plans, hospitality venues including cafes, pubs and restaurants will be permitted to open from 26 April.

Rules state that such venues can open until 8pm indoors, but without serving alcohol, and up to 10pm outdoors where alcohol is allowed to be consumed.

Wetherspoons has confirmed it will be reopening from 26 April, with customers able to sit inside to enjoy a meal from a reduced menu and non-alcoholic drinks, or sit outside in beer gardens, rooftop gardens and patios if they wish to consume alcohol.

Customers will not be able to book a table in advance and may be asked to wait outside until space is available during busy periods.

Seven of the chain’s pubs which have hotels in them will also be reopening from 26 April. These are:

  • King's Highway, Inverness
  • Saltoun Inn, Fraserburgh
  • Cross Keys, Peebles
  • White Lady, Corstorphine
  • Golden Acorn, Glenrothes
  • Guildhall and Linen Exchange, Dunfermline
  • Jollys Hotel, Broughty Ferry

It is expected that customers will be asked to follow the same rules as were announced for pubs in England, which include wearing masks when walking around and maintaining social distancing.

Wetherspoons in England will be opening slightly earlier than in Scotland, with pubs due to reopen for outdoor dining with no curfew from 12 April, although customers will have to wait until 17 May to eat and drink inside pubs and restaurants.
