What you need to know about rollout of second UK- authorised jab in North Lanarkshire

NHS Lanarkshire is now rolling out the second vaccine to be authorised for public use across the United Kingdom in the battle against Covid-19.

The Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine will be prioritised for care home residents, frontline health and social care workers and those aged 80 or over Those within this named age group will receive a letter or ‘phone call from NHS Lanarkshire inviting them forward for their vaccine

Dr Mark Russell, Associate Medical Director, North Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “Approval of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine is great news as it is logistically easier to administer in local settings, meaning that we can roll it out to more people.

“ However, we’d urge patience as we work through priority groups in line with the vaccine supplies that we have available.

“Everyone will be invited forward for their vaccine in due course and there is no need for anyone to contact their doctor or health board.”

A total of two jabs will be required as is the case with the first approved vaccine. F
