Eligibility for fu jab changes in its second phase in Lanarkshire

Health chiefs have published details of the second phase of the flu jab that they intend to undertake this month – and who they wish to target.

NHS Lanarkshire now says that “eligibility is being extended first to those aged 60 to 64 as a priority” amidst fears that they are especially at risk from Covid-19.

Bosses stated that first round of jabs had put the focus on over 65s.

And invitations to participate in this second phase are now being sent out by post,

Joanne Jenkins, Associate Nurse Director, South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “I’d encourage anyone invited to come forward for the flu vaccine to make sure they get the jab.

“It’s the best protection we have against flu, is free, safe and isn’t a live virus so it can’t give you flu.

“Every year thousands of people in Scotland are hospitalised by flu. With Covid-19 in circulation, it is more important than ever to protect yourself and your loved ones.

“Getting the flu vaccine is one of the most important reasons to leave your home and strict infection and prevention control measures are in place to ensure the utmost safety.”
