Food business success

Food businesses in North Lanarkshire have the best standards of hygiene in Scotland, according to a Which? survey.

This success is said to be due both to good practices in local businesses and strong guidance and to enforcement by North Lanarkshire Council’s business regulation service.

Which? assessed 398 local authorities across the UK using the data they submit to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) on the levels of high and medium risk businesses that comply with food hygiene requirements.

And the results placed North Lanarkshire Council as the best performing local authority in Scotland.

“This is excellent news for consumers in North Lanarkshire, as well as the council and local businesses,” said the council’s environmental services convener Councillor Helen McKenna.

She added: “Using the Food Hygiene Information Scheme, consumers can now quickly find this information about their favourite restaurants, cafes or shops, giving peace of mind about their hygiene standards.”
