Fun club in Cumbernauld gears up for awaydays

A new group offering opportunities to adults with support needs has developed in Cumbernauld – and is providing respite for carers again.

Appropriately named ‘New Adventures’ the group initially began in January,

Yet the fledgling operation was forced to fold because of Covid-19 but has now announced it is back in business and determined to raise its profile to get even more people involved.

Crucially, it is members of the group who decide what is on offer from a varied programme of social, educational and fun activities.

And this can even include a weekend break away.

Before lockdown the group even met for monthly Sunday moviethons, savouring brunch and lunch while providing carers with some time to themselves – all the while knowing their loved ones were among friends.

Among those at the helm is Ann MCulloch, who many of our readers will recognise as the manager of the Watch Us Grow charity and has recently retired from the Palacerigg-based gardening project for adults with additional support needs.

Ann said: “I am delighted with the way the group is developing. Unfortunately, the pandemic put a temporary hold on our activities.

“However, it is great that we are again beginning to offer short outings to participants.”
