For the past three weeks, colleagues have been busy collecting for the campaign group Cumbernauld Against Poverty (CAP, and managed to amass 12 crates of food, including everything from tinned goods to toiletries and baby care items.

Customer service staff at SSE’s Cumbernauld site decided to support the cause after learning Vulnerability Strategy Manager Louise Bailey’s son, Jordan Daly, was a co-founder of CAP along with Liam Stevenson.

The collection was so successful that the items will now be split between two local food banks.

Both Jordan and Liam visited the site to collect the donations and thank staff for all their efforts

Neil Potts, employee engagement manager, said: “Everyone has been really supportive of the fundraising drive to the extent that we collected enough donations to support two food banks in the local area.

“We also have a pool table in the break area where employees spend 20p on a game. The proceeds from this were also donated to CAP, raising £245 which was then topped up with vouchers and cash to reach £527.”

Meanwhile CAP is staging a special Old Firm-themed football match on Saturday in aid of the town centre’s Bethlehem House of Bread food bank.

It’s at 2pm at the Ravenswood astroturf, and is sponsored by regular supporter the Stables Bar.

Likely to feature some well known faces it costs £10 to take part (includes sponsor sheet), and all proceeds from the day will go to House of Bread.
