Tier moves up a gear in Lanarkshire crackdown

The move from tier three to tier four will take place on Friday at 6pm, affecting “non essential” retail , hospitality and leisure.

Both authorities are joining nine other council areas in a get-tough period of restrictions which will be lifted on Friday, December 11.

NHS Lanarkshire chief executive Heather Knox said:“At present, Covid-19 continues to cause severe pressure on our healthcare resources in Lanarkshire.

​“While numbers in our hospitals have stabilised, we are still treating more patients in our hospitals than at the height of the first wave

​“To protect our loved ones, our staff and our hospitals, it is vitally important that everyone takes personal responsibility and follows Scottish Government guidance, taking into account the consequences of their actions on their families, community, local business and people’s livelihoods.”

Meanwhile, the Scottish Retail Consortium has described the news as “a hammer blow” amidst fears businesses will go under by missing out on the pre-Christmas rush and the Scottish Licensed Trade Association has stated that some pubs and restaurants will close permanently.
