Churches get together to hold youth evenings

A NEW youth evening is set to begin this week in Abronhill, giving young people the chance to meet up and stay safe in the winter nights.

Members of the Freedom City Church and Abronhill Parish Church have come together to organise the weekly event, called Revol8, which invites youths of all denominations to come together in a safe and fun environment.

The creation of the evening has been borne out of the success of a similar venture which has been running in Seafar House for an number of years.

Rachel Gibson, pastor at the Freedom City Church said: “Three years ago we opened our first Revol8 Centre in Seafar House.

“Over this time we have seen a couple of hundred young people come through, use the facility and be helped through our courses.

“We see an average of 60-70 young people each week and due to its success we are joining up with Abronhill Parish Church and opening a second Revol8 Centre within the Abronhill Parish facility.

“This is a great opportunity for the young people of Abronhill to gather in a safe environment, have positive role models and be encouraged in their daily lives.”

The evenings have been organised by youth members of both parishes and offer a wide selection of activities.

“It will provide chill out areas and games facilities, including pool, table tennis, Xbox, basketball, football, and an opportunity to hear the message of Jesus,” Rachel added.

The centre will initially be open every Thursday evening between 7.30pm and 9.00pm for anyone of high school age.
