FAMILY MATTERS

Each week the News and Chronicle turns the spotlight on a major family event, such as a birth or a wedding. This week: the marriage of Ann Brooks and Bobby Taggart.

HOW THEY MET: Ann was serving as an army reserve when she ran into full-time soldier Bobby.

THE PROPOSAL: It happened on Christmas Day last year. Both were seated by their swimming pool with a cold beer when Bobby said: “I think we should get married.’’ Doing that in Scotland was the couple’s dream, so Bobby’s Kilsyth based sister Ann Taylor arranged it in two weeks with more help from sister Margaret!

THE WEDDING: At Kirkintilloch Registry Office. A total of 36 guests attended and the reception was held at Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club with another 25 guests who enjoyed a disco.

THE WEDDING PARTY:The best man was Bobby’s brother-in-law Tommy Taylor and wife Ann was the Matron of Honour.

THE DRESS: This was bought in Glasgow - a satin number with a chiffon overlay and a beaded bodice. Ann will wear it again at a recommitment ceremony back in Australia on April 14.

HONEYMOON PLANS: The couple are saving their honeymoon for when they return to Australia and have planned a break near the Great Barrier Reef at Port Douglas.
