Do You Nomi? explores the world and persona of Nomi, who recorded a discography which was a staple of gay nightclubs and who worked with David Bowie. Sadly he was also one of the first celebrity AIDs victims, dying in 1983.

The piece, directed by Grant Smeaton and choreographed by Alan Greig, combines dance and traditional theatre in fun and inventive ways, according to Smeaton. “When I was growing up in my formative teenage years he had a a big part in my life.” he said. “His distinctive look was popular with magazines on punk and new wave, and his music was a fixture in the clubs I went to. His life is also a story about the height of the Cold War and the rise of the AIDs epidemic,” added Grant.

However, Grant promises that despite Nomi’s tragic death the show is far from downbeat. “It’s hugely entertaining,” he said. “It is constantly in motion and it is also very funny. Nomi had such a sense of fun and that really comes into it.”
