Pricey night out to see pop princess

POP fans have had a good run of it over the last few weeks – in fact, it’s a wonder they have any money left this month.

Following on from last week’s Clyde 1 Live and of course yesterday’s star-studded Mobo awards comes the reigning princess of pop Rihanna.

The Barbados-born singer appears – where else – at the SECC on Monday and Tuesday, promising big-stage versions of chart toppers like (ITALS) Umbrella (ITALS) and (ITALS) What’s My Name? (ITALS).

As well known for her fashion sense as her voice, there’s bound to be a few extravagant costume changes in the mix too.

It’s also not the kind of gig where you want to show up late, as Rihanna has drafted in Scotland’s own collaboration golden boy Calvin Harris to get the party started.

Having worked with artists ranging from Dizzee Rascal to Kelis and Katy Perry, DJ and producer Harris has plenty of tunes in his back catalogue, as well as a few remixes everyone is bound to recognise.

If Rihanna’s latest single is anything to go by, you may find yourself saying cheers to the weekend long after those Sunday night blues – and what better way to get over that slump than to dance your midweek troubles away at the SECC.

With tickets starting at £39.50 it’s not a cheap night out – but here at Extra Weekend we doubt that will stand in the way of die-hard Rihanna fans.

If it does, remember she’ll be returning to the dear, green place in November for one more night – and start saving the pennies now.

n Doors open at 7pm at the SECC, and tickets (£39.50–£46) are available
