Random Guy take a chance

LOCAL band The Random Guy, are making a last ditch attempt at breaking into the music industry with their latest album.

The record, appropriately named, First Chance, Last Shot, is due to be launched at Maggie May’s in Glasgow on February 5.

Singer and guitarist John Cunningham (33) feels that after practising and gigging together for the past two to three years, the album is a statement of intent.

He said: “We’ve all known each other for around 15 years, with Alexandria coming into the fold later on, and have been playing together for a long time.

“We take our influences and inspiration from bands ranging from Queens of the Stone Age to Pink Floyd, but it’s very hard to pin our sound down.

“We see this album as our last big go at doing something with music. We’re all getting on and have jobs and families to think about, apart from Alexandria, she’s still a young thing,” he joked.

The band defy the normal conventions of a four-piece act as all of the members switch around taking shots on the traditional set up of drums, bass, guitar and vocals. Bassist, pianist and singer Stewart said: “We play all these different instruments and people really respond when we switch around. It creates a great atmosphere.”

After experiencing a relative high by being selected as Clyde 1’s band of the week several years ago, the group were forced into a hiatus due to work commitments.

However, with 12 tracks under their belts and a CD to promote them, they are desperate to get out on the road and show people why they are still together.

Alexandria added: “The songs we’ve written are ones that will turn your frown upside down. There’s inspirational music on the CD and there’s music you can dance to.”

John and Tom jokingly added: “Aye, it’s 33% heart-breaker, 66% bum-shaker! It’s the best 12 songs you’ve never heard.”
