School of rock!

STUDENTS who are learning how to make music showed off the fruits of their labour in Cumbernauld last week.

The acoustic rock event by Cumbernauld and Motherwell College students was held in Cornerstone House on Thursday, February 28.

Cumbernauld College HND sound production and HND TV production students joined HND music performance students from Motherwell College for the event which took its inspiration from Jools Holland’s eponymous BBC show.

More than 50 students jammed at the event, which took place as both colleges finalise merger plans.

Alan Moffat, music lecturer at Cumbernauld College said: “The joint event was a fantastic example of the collaborative approach to learning which is being undertaken by both colleges.

“Both colleges offer different types of music courses and it’s great to see Cumbernauld College students assisting those from Motherwell College and vice-versa.”

Scott Cowie, music lecturer from Motherwell College, added: “As the merger continues it is great to see the two colleges working so closely together already.

“This project has involved students from several courses as well as those who work on the radio station, bringing all parts of the event together successfully.”

The students have been working closely with each other over the past year with Cumbernauld sound and TV production students delivering technological assistance to Motherwell’s music students at an event at Wallace Monument in November, 2012.

Student William Clapperton (19), from Cumbernauld College’s HND TV production course, said: “It’s great to build bridges with the students at Motherwell College. We’re able to help them with technical support while recording them performing helps improves on our skills.”

A live stream from the music event featured on Cumbernauld College’s radio station, Radio Active, while videos from the event will be going up shortly on Cumbernauld College’s website.
