Volunteers wanted to transform canalside gardens near Kilsyth

VOLUNTEERS are wanted to help build a canalside sensory garden at Auchinstarry Marina.

The Scottish Waterways Trust, assisted by young volunteers New College Lanarskhire and The Prince’s Trust, has already started to transform planted areas at the Scents and Sensitivities Garden.

On Friday Depute Provost Councillor Jean Jones visited the garden as the first volunteers got to work planting non-invasive, bee and butterfly-friendly flowers in the garden.

She said:“ The Scents and Sensitivities Garden at Auchinstarry Marina is a terrific community resource.

“Now local communities can get involved in developing and maintaining the garden.

“It’s a great new outdoors volunteering opportunity which will appeal to youth and community groups through to keen individual gardeners.”

John McGowan of the Scottish Waterways Trust added: “We are keen to see as many local people and community groups involved in the garden as possible.”
