Wild things wanted

A CHARITY that manages no fewer than five local nature reserves is looking for people who want to maximise the potential of these magnificent green spaces.

Dullatur Marsh, Cumbernauld Glen, Luggiebank Woods, Forest Woods and Northside Woods all fall under the protection of the Scottish Wildlife Trust – and its local chairman Patricia Stewart has approached us in the hope of finding volunteers for a so-called Naturewatch team.

Patricia said: “Each reserve has its own particular character. charm and reasons for protecting it. Our staff members oversee and manage them with the help of teams of volunteers who carry out work .

“Members can also volunteer to help organize and run a great programme of easy-learning sessions on different species, run groups for children, give presentations to local schools and take parties of people out into the reserves for practical learning too,’’ she added.

Few could doubt that this takes a lot of work and that is why Patricia has enlisted the News & Chronicle for some assistance.
