Willie takes another look into the past in time for new year

MOST of us celebrate the new year with a trip down memory lane - and a Kilsyth author is no different.

Willie Chalmers, of Howe Road, has released another edition of his Times Past Kilsyth books in time for 2013.

Readers familiar with the 75-year-old’s work will know his books give a real insight into the way things were.

The 16th edition of the series features a collection of black and white prints of Kilsyth and villages.

There is a picture in the book which was taken at the back of Burns Church at Howe Road in Kilsyth.

Willie says: “It was a Sunday afternoon gathering of men folk, both young and old. It was led by the church minister the Rev Robert Black. The picture was taken in 1845 to 1859. He seems to have been a heavily built man, in the centre front kneeling on one knee.”

Times Past books, and William’s latest release and calenders are on sale at David Cants in Kilsyth Main Street.
