2013 reasons for a happy new year

Supercounty presented the WRVS with a cheque for £2,013 as the organisation felt it was important to highlight their work in the community, especially with the Celebrate Lanarkshire 2013 event well underway.

WRVS works in partnership with both North and South Lanarkshire councils, and NHS Lanarkshire to help more than 2,500 service users.

John Scott, head of Supercounty Lanarkshire Civic Pride Campaign, said: “The 500 volunteers who give up their time on a daily or weekly basis are a credit to Lanarkshire – and what they do can not be underestimated: they provide an essential service that truly highlights Lanarkshire as a great place with great people.”

Supercounty presented the cheque to WRVS’ Sandra Forbes, who has volunteered for 24 years, and Cumbernauuld and Kilsyth service manager Jackie Gallacher.

Jackie said: “WRVS rely on the help and support of people like Sandra Forbes.

“Next month, Sandra will be celebrating her 24th year as a WRVS volunteer. She has shown a commitment and dedication in a variety of roles, but latterly through the Meals-On-Wheels service.

“I am very grateful to all the volunteers who continue to give willingly of their time.”

Alison Love, area manager of the WRVS IN Lanarkshire, added: “To receive this financial boost from Supercounty is wonderful - this will help us continue to deliver such an important service to so many people across Lanarkshire.”
