Abronhill crowns its Queen

ABRONHILL showed the rest of Cumbernauld that it knows how to party as it successfully staged the highlight of its social calendar on Saturday.

The annual Gala Day put another queen in the forefront, namely Queen Jasmine Lamont - who was ably assisted by Princesses Alisha Fraser and Justine Davidson.

These young ladies - dressed in fetching gowns of baby pink - added a regal touch to the proceedings which saw hundreds of locals converge on Abronhill High School after a spectacular procession which started at St Lucy’s Church.

Queen Jasmine was crowned with a tiara and the princesses had their immaculate tresses garlanded in a move which saw Abronhill’s very own ‘royals’ looking gorgeous!

Following the coronation, the fun began in earnest as the young team got fully involved in the lavish entertaiment programme that had been carefully thought out.

Youngsters clambered onto the bouncy castle and were every bit as enamoured with the mini-fairground which made everything go with a swing! And a spot of Sumo wrestling was also added into the mix for a spot of Japanese fighting action!

A climbing wall and flight simulator were just two of the other attractions at this action packed event which has helped raise £500 for the area’s popular playpark.

It is organised yearly by hard-working Abronhill Regeneration Group who have played a sizeable part in organising key events over the year - for a population that is bigger than that of Kilsyth’s.

Volunteer Jenny Burgon said: “It was a great day. We got a few minutes of drizzle and that was it. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. It also gives us the chance to raise cash into the bargain for this area.’’
