Abronhill set to lose full sub-post office service

We can reveal that Post Office Ltd now intends to downgrade the sub-post office in Pine Road’s RS McColl’s.

This means that only a reduced service can be offered at a single till point.

Similar plans were announced several months ago for sub-post offices in both Balloch Eastfield and Croy.

Now it looks as if Abronhill is set to join them, at a point when the future of the Crown Post office in the Town Centre also looks uncertain.

And that’s just not good enough, according to MP Gregg McClymont.

The Labour man said: “Coming on top of the plans to franchise Cumbernauld Crown Post office this is another blow to local post office services.

“My understanding is that the Abronhill community will now no longer be able to access services such as Passport Check & Send as well as now lacking dedicated Post Office counters.’’

A Post Office spokesperson said insisted that this was part of a modernisation programme that would in fact have many benefits.

She said: “We are currently consulting with customers regarding the proposed changes at Pine Road Post Office branch. Our proposals would ensure that the vast majority of services remain. This includes first and second class mail and free cash withdrawals from POCA and wider banking partner accounts. Customers will also benefit from longer opening hours including extended hours on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.”

The spokesman was also asked to provide an update on the future of the crown post office but we were told that there was nothing new to report.
