Airport claims turbine threat
Cumbernauld Airport’s managing director says aviation safety at the airport could be adversely impacted by plans to construct a wind turbine near Denny.
George Cormack says planning officials at Falkirk Council ignored his objections when they approved a 45.9 metre high turbine to be built near Denny - and this could seriously impair operations at the aerodrome, which is home to several flying schools and charter businesses operating small aircraft and helicopters.
“The site is right in the circuit we use for flying lessons, as well as one of the main approaches” said Mr Cormack. “Under aviation law it is our responsibility to safeguard the continued operations at our airfield, and this turbine seems to present a big problem which could jeopardise aircraft.”
