Alan Muir, a former assistant editor with the Kirkintilloch Herald and chief reporter at the Falkirk Herald, scooped £4,000 on the show.

Alan, who lives in Cumbernauld, said he was encouraged to apply for the general knowledge TV quiz by his two young sons - Ben (9) and Jack (11).

He said: “I really enjoyed taking part in The Chase. We watch it regularly on the telly and it was my boys who persuaded me to apply.

“It was a great experience and Bradley Walsh was really nice.”

Alan, who works in the media and communications department at East Dunbartonshire Council, applied online to take part in The Chase last year and was invited to auditions in Glasgow. This week’s episode was actually filmed back in January at Elstree Studios in London.

Alan, whose mum and dad live in the Falkirk area, wore a kilt for the show. He was one of four people on the team that bagged a total of £16,000 in prize money after beating Chaser Anne Hegerty.

He said: “I have always been a big fan of The Chase and I went into it for the experience and to enjoy it for what it is.”

“To be honest, I was more nervous watching the show on the telly than I was on the day of filming.”
