Aldi lead the way with new Cumbernauld development

Planners have been asked to sign off finalised layouts for a new retail park in Westfield which could bring 200 new jobs to the town.

We can confirm that the key retail investors in the £30 million seven-unit precinct are Aldi and Home Bargains

And developers promise there are more big names on the way.

The site, which is located in the shadow of Broadwood Stadium, already has planning permission for the shops, a pub, a drive-through and petrol station.

L&S Broadwood, a subsidiary of London & Scottish Investments, hopes to secure approval for these more detailed plans in time to have shovels in the ground this autumn.

The company already owns Wardpark Industrial Estate.

Development director Bryan Wilson said: “The presence of Aldi and Home Bargains will set the standard for the quality of retailers we expect.”

“Now we need the planners to give this the final green light to take the development off the drawing board and make it a reality.

“This is an opportunity to bring much needed long-term jobs here and we have the financial backing in place which will transform is currently an overgrown wasteland into a major amenity.”
