An investment of around £900,000 is to be made to revamp Cumbernauld train station in time for the 2014 Commonwealth Games - if the project is given the green light by planning officials.
A planning application has been submitted to North Lanarkshire Council by Network Rail asking for permission to construct a replacement station building at Cumbernauld train station on South Carbrain Road.
Network Rail confirmed that the train station is to benefit from the major redevelopment as part of the work to electrify the Glasgow to Cumbernauld line ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
They hope to have the new facility fully operational by next summer should planners at North Lanarkshire Council allow the work to go ahead.
The refurbishment work is likely to cost in the region of £900,000.
