All set for a gala-xy of fun

A PACKED programme of events has been planned for Abronhill Gala Day on Saturday.

Committee members are hoping that people from all over Cumbernauld will help them celebrate what is the highlight of Abronhill's social calendar, with a host of fun activities in the grounds of Abronhill High School.

Gala Queen Charlie McFarlane, with her Princesses Nicole Gallagher and Lauren McGhee, will arrive at the event in style in an open-topped car.

Highlights will include:

•A colourful fancy dress parade which will snake its way through Abronhill.

•Live music, including a performance from Whitelees Primary's celebrated School of Rock group

•A taste of Latin American dance/fitness craze Zumba.

These are just some of the many attractions lined up for the community event.

There will also be a host of stalls, a DJ and lots of fun activities for the children.

Councillor Liz Irvine said: "The organisers have booked the inside of Abronhill High School just in case it rains, so this should be a good day whatever the weather."

Timetable of Events

10am - Revellers gather outside St Lucy's Parish Church hall, Hornbeam Road.

10.15-10.30am - Parade makes its way via Blackthorn Road to Abronhill High School.

11.15am - Coronation of Gala Queen Charlie with Princesses Nicole and Lauren.

11.30am- Full programme gets underway.
