And they’re off! Beef products taken off the menu after horsemeat DNA found in Cumbernauld High burger

A CUMBERNAULD school issued a letter of reassurance to parents this week after it became embroiled in the horse meat scandal.

North Lanarkshire Council confirmed that horse DNA was found in a frozen burger within a school kitchen in Cumbernauld High School on Thursday, February 21.

Following the positive test, the Food Standards Agency was notified and investigations revealed that the burger came from the Brakes Group who are supplier chosen by the council’s procurer Scotland Excel.

The council say they cannot confirm if the burgers have been consumed and they have removed stocks of beef products from schools kitchens as a precaution following the discovery.
