Archive of Cumbernauld is shaping up nicely after nostalgic photographs poured in

Cumbernauld residents with an eye on both the past and future have been credited with making a recent exhibition a picture -perfect success.

Because they responded in satifyingly full numbers to a call for old photographs in this newspaper - which are required for an archive being created by Edinburgh based social history project- Scotland’s Urban Past.

Coinciding with Open Doors Day, the exhbition was held at the newly revamped Muirfield Centre which itself was part of the locations to be explored

Yet it was the contents of many a cherished family album and souvenirs from the town’s early life which were the stars of the show.

And it has also emerged that readers who weren’t able to contribut on the day can now do so online by registering via http://scotlandsurbanpast.org.uk/urban-detectives

The site also features some of the wonderful photographs handed in.

A special feature on this exhibition will appear in next week’s edition.
