A Home Office spokesperson told Cumbernauld News an operation had taken place involving immigration enforcement officers, HMRC and police, and added that it had been based on intelligence received.

Passers-by saw officers enter the Lucky Garden takeaway in Ettrick Square at teatime on Friday, when it would normally be busy.

The officers arrived at around 5.30pm, and staff were then questioned to check whether they had the right to live and work in the UK.

The spokesperson said: “During the operation, three Chinese nationals were arrested. Two females were arrested, aged 37 and 41, and one male aged 25.”

It’s understood the Home Office will now pursue a civil penalty.
