Asda recalls lunch item due to salmonella contamination

Supermarket Asda has taken steps to recall a popular lunch item after it was revealed the product contains salmonella.

The chain issued a notice recalling its Chicken and Sweetcorn Pasta Salad today (Wednesday). Food poisoning-causing bug salmonella was found during routine testing.

People are advised not to consume the salads.

The Salmonella bacteria can cause salmonellosis, an infection with symptoms including diarrhea, fever, vomiting and abdominal cramps. Symptoms typically start ten to 72 hours after infection.

The Asda statement read: “If you have purchased Chicken and Pasta Salad 400g, with the affected date code, please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt.

“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information please contact Asda customer relations on 0800 952 0101.”

Salmonella infection is most commonly associated with raw, or undercooked, meat, eggs, milk or contaminated water.

Affected 400g batches display a use by date of April 23 and the barcode number 505478110346.
