Linda told The Extra: “We provide a range of exciting, challenging and adventurous activities for boys and girls aged 12 to 18 — including a number of weekend camps and a two-week annual camp in the summer.”

Linda went on to explain that they recently moved from a church into Woodfarm Pavilion where they parade on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

The sergeant continued: “We currently have 17 cadets parading with us and some of their achievements include corporal Blair Nugent who was part of the team that came second in the Scottish Military Skills Competition. Corporal Nugent and lance corporal Victoria Johnstone are soon to go to Blandford Signals Camp in Dorset to take part in a UK national signals competition.

“And there are a number of others who have successfully completed their Duke of Edinburgh Awards and First Aid qualifications.”

The group is also involved in a number of activities such as the Giffnock Soccer Festival and the Armed Forces Family Day at Rouken Glen Park.

In ending, Linda told us: “We are a successful detachment, but we would like more cadets to join us and help us continue to grow.”
