Auchinstarryclimbing under threat

THE future of climbing at the area’s most popular hotspot for the hobby could be under threat.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland is currently trying to convince North Lanarkshire Council not to carry out rock scaling at disused Auchinstarry Quarry.

Rock scaling is a process by which loose rock is cleared away from a rock face, preventing it from falling. However the McofS is concerned that the treatment could spoil the quarry for climbers, who travel from all over Central Scotland to enjoy its various routes which offer challenges for all levels of climber.
