Back to school for education minister

HOLYROOD came to Cumbernauld last week after a high-level visitor popped in to two high-performing local schools – and praised them both to the heights.

Mike Russell, cabinet secretary for education and lifelong learning, firstly made his way to Whitelees Primary – which has famously received the highest ranking assessment from education watchdogs in Scotland. It had scored what is effectively a Perfect 10 - in securing no fewer than FIVE ‘Excellent’ gradings

Kildrum Primary which also scored highly in a report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate was the next school to be visited in Mr Russell’s mini-tour.
