Big day named for grand opening of Greenfaulds High School

Education chiefs have finally named the day when pupils will move into the new Greenfaulds High School, which is in its final stages of construction.

The Scottish Government and North Lanarkshire Council have now told parents and pupils that the new school will open on Thursday September 29 at 8.55am.

It’s also been confirmed that pupils will be granted three days of so-called exceptional closure on Thursday, September 22, Tuesday September 27 and Wednesday, September 28.

This will allow furniture and educational materials will be removed from the 1970s-built secondary to the gleaming new building which is just metres away from it.

More details of the move are to be finalised within days.

Meanwhile, a nostalgia tour has been arranged for former staff and pupils which will enable them to walk the corridors of the school for the very last time .

This trip down memory lane will take place on Wednesday, September 14 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm with senior pupils acting as guides.

They will also have the chance to sign a memory wall which will be transferred into the new building.

Tea and coffee will be provided parent council on the night.
