Blind parents’ carer feared losing home

HEARTLESS housing bosses were prepared to make a pregnant single mother of five homeless - after refusing to allocate her a home that would have instantly met her needs, it is claimed.

HOUSING bosses were prepared to make a pregnant single mother-of-five homeless - after refusing to allocate her a home that would have instantly met her needs, it is claimed.

Karen McSween lives in cramped circumstances for a very good reason – she faced a heartbreaking marital breakup over Christmas and returned to the family home in Westfield.

As a full-time carer for her mum and dad Robert and Jessie Kinnonmont, who are both blind, Karen is needed round the clock to help.

They discussed the best way to deal with the situation and came to the conclusion that Robert and Jessie should apply for a house nearby - and that Karen could stay on in their original address which has five bedrooms.

Although housing staff from North Lanarkshire Council were willing to allow the Kinnonmonts to view another house in Westfield, they refused to allow Karen to stay in the property.
