Break-ins become car thefts in Cumbernauld after Abronhill incidents

A total of three burglaries have turned into car thefts in Abrohill in just over a week.

The latest in a series of incidents has taken place in Whitelees Road overnight on Tuesday December 1.

A thief took a Nintendo DS, ipod and a Nokia phone but did not stop there after spying car keys.

This resulted in a red Nissan Duke being stolen from the driveway.

The incident bears similarities with an incident when a female householder was awoken at 5.10am on Monday by a noise in her home - that she initially thought was her boiler.

She headed downstairs to investigate and was horrified to see her house was in disarray.

Quickly she realised she was thousands of pounds out of pocket.

The victim found that seven limited edition bottles of Absolut Vodka had been taken with two bottles of Jack Daniels plus a jewellery box.

The thief had also bagged gadgets including a purple-coloured tablet, a PS3 console and a laptop.

Despite their considerable value, the gadgets were not the most expensive item taken in the break-in.

The thief had also spotted the house-owner’s car keys and used the victim’s beige Nissan Note as the getaway car.

As we have reported, the first incident involved the theft of a black Citroen DS3 from a house in Birkenburn Road, again, after keys were used by the burglar.

The thief had gained access to the house on Tuesday, November 24 and had taken a purse with a two-figure sum in addition to the keys.
