Brigadier Colin Cowan passes away

At time of going to press it emerged that Cumbernauld has lost one of the new town’s key players.

Brigadier Colin Cowan passed away in Edinburgh on Friday, February 21. He was 93.

Brigadier Cowan was the head of Cumbernauld Development Corporation between 1970 and 1985.

With his military bearing and ‘old school’ eye for detail, the brigadier was one of the most recognisable faces of the organisation which helped Cumbernauld to grow.

It was frequently the Brigadier’s job to show royalty round town and represent Cumbernauld on trade missions abroad.

A veteran of World War Two who served in the Royal Engineers, Brigadier Cowan also fought in Germany .

His funeral will take place at Morningside United Reform Church on Monday, March 3 at 1pm.

A full tribute to the man who helped to put Cumbernauld on the map will appear in next week’s edition of the Cumbernauld News and Kilsyth Chronicle.
